Carousel - Jomike Tejido's 8th solo exhibit

Carousel
Jomike Tejido’s 8th solo exhibition
of acrylic on banig (hand-woven mat) paintings
Jomike Tejido’s Carousel brings viewers back to childhood with its whimsical carnival atmosphere. Across cultures, carnival rides are a part of most children’s lives, whether set in a local perya or karnabal, to huge theme park. Instead of the freaky attractions, this show focuses on the psyche of the revolving rides and how it brings a sense of wonder for a child, and how these few minutes, along with a small toy or sweet confection, are to be the happiest moments one’s life. Lavish art deco motifs are influenced from Tejido’s architectural background, while the ornamental patterns reflect the Filipino jeepney and festive spirit. Carousel aims to bring back the times when we could just let go of all our worries and enjoy the ride of life.
Jomike Tejido’s Carousel opens on October 17 at 6:00pm and runs through November 9, 2013 at Olive Creek Gallery, G/F HRC Center 104 Rada St., Legaspi Village, Makati. For inquiries, call 5764302.

Jomike Tejido's Vendors series in Art in the Park 2013

Art in the Park 2013 will showcase my vendors series for the first time after its conception in my Raffles Hotel project. Come visit our booth, "Ang INK"  #K-1 which is right beside the playground area.  See you there!
Here's a clip from the off'l press release:
Saturday Afternoon Like No Other

On Saturday, March 16, 2013, from 2 pm to 12 midnight Jaime Velasquez Park in Salcedo Village, Makati City will once bustle with excitement at the Museum Foundation's annual affordable art fair, Art In The Park.

Originally envisioned as a way to introduce wider audiences to Philippine contemporary art by providing them with an occasion to view art in a relaxed setting, Art In The Park has become much more than that.  It has become a community activity where people come initially to peruse the stalls with the intent of purchasing art; but end up lingering because of the atmosphere – the food, the drinks, the conversations and the friends.

- Each piece is a triptych set that can be wall-hung or set as a tri-fold desktop altar.
- All pieces are published works for San Miguel Corporation's corporate calendar for 2013.
- This online art exhibition starts on Dec 7, 2012.

Medium
These original paintings are made with acrylic on treated hand-woven mats, locally known in the Philippines as banig. This material is traditionally used for hats, sleeping mats or bags, but Tejido uses it as his signature canvas for fine art. The beauty in the pieces emanate from the texture the mat gives, and is an excellent conversational piece for any personal space.
